Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare to remove and tag vehicle body components
   • Task instruction is interpreted and vehicle to be worked on is identified
   • Body component information is sourced and interpreted
   • Potential hazards and risks associated with task are identified and reported to workplace supervisor
   • Tools and equipment are selected and checked for serviceability
2. Remove components
   • Body components for removal are identified
   • Components are removed according to manufacturer specifications, workplace procedures, and safety and environmental requirements, and without causing damage to components or systems
   • Removed components are inspected and findings recorded according to workplace procedures
3. Tag components
   • Tagging procedures are identified
   • Removed components are legibly tagged without causing damage and according to workplace procedures
   • Tagged components are stored according to workplace procedures
4. Complete work processes
   • Final inspection is made to ensure work meets task instruction and workplace standards
   • Work area is cleaned, waste and non-recyclable materials are disposed of, and recyclable material is collected and stored
   • Tools and equipment are checked and stored according to workplace procedures
   • Workplace documentation is processed according to workplace procedures

Before competency can be determined, individuals must demonstrate they can perform the following according to the standard defined in this unit’s elements, performance criteria, range of conditions and foundation skills:

door glass and handles.

Knowledge Evidence

Individuals must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

work health and safety (WHS) and occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements relating to removing and tagging vehicle body components, including procedures for selecting and using personal protective equipment (PPE)

environmental requirements, including procedures for trapping, storing and disposing of waste produced during the body component removal process

identification and basic function of body components to be removed and tagged, including:

frames

bumper bars

grilles

doors

door glass and handles

body component removal procedures

body component tagging and storage procedures.
